David N Hall OBE the first Director of the Foundation
for Science and Technology 1981 - 2000.
Foundation established to provide
facilities and help to learned and professional societies. He
initiated 'Interdisciplinary Lectures' which developed into sponsored
lecture and dinner discussions held in the house of the Royal Society.
The Foundation invited relevant guests from industry, Parliament,
universities, schools, research organisations, and from various walks of
life.
Dr Dougal Goodman OBE FREng
succeeded David Hall and the purpose now stated is: The Foundation's
purpose is to provide a neutral platform for debate of policy issues
that have a science, engineering or technology element. The Foundation
organises dinner/discussions and workshops on relevant issues when
parliament is sitting.
Discussions both before and after
dinner are held under the
Chatham House Rule.
The Foundation also provides a support
service to learned and professional societies. Around 140 societies
subscribe to receive a Newsletter. David Hall was at various times involved in a
number of other learned societies and
educational charities.
